What previous participants said

"The Marriage Course was a wonderful opportunity to take stock of our relationship and it gave us practical tools to improve our marriage. Easily the most helpful tool we've come across in supporting and building marriage."

"Felt very loved and valued as a couple - cared for and noticed. Thank you."

"The course gave us great insight and tools to improve issues, including issues we didn't know were festering under the surface."

"Helped us to understand and know each other for better or worse."

"This course helped us spend more time together and talk about more deep issues."

What to expect

The room is set up with tables for two, with dessert or supper at each table. Each session involves watching a DVD presentation with occasional breaks for couple discussion. Background music is played so you can't hear the other conversations happening around you.

You will be provided with a workbook containing discussion questions to guide your conversations. In between each session, there is 'homework' to do as a couple in your own time. We suggest allowing at least one hour per week for the homework.

The teaching

The Marriage Course is designed by Relationship Central, a Christian ministry connected with Alpha. The course presenters are married couple Nicky and Sila Lee, who deliver the teaching via DVD. As well as input from Nicky and Sila, the DVD includes short personal stories from married couples around the world.

Redhill Church are the hosts for this course, which means we set up the venue, organise catering, greet people each session and provide you with further resources if you want them.

Cost

$100 per couple (that's less than $15 per session!). Includes workbooks as well as dessert and refreshments each session.

Frequently asked questions

Will there be group discussion?

The course does NOT include group discussion or sharing any information with the other couples participating.

Is this marriage counselling?

This course is not 'marriage counselling', but rather an opportunity to have guided conversations as a couple. If you are facing issues in your marriage that require more in-depth attention, we can provide you with details of professional counsellors in Canberra.

Is this a Christian course?

The Marriage Course is designed and run by Christians, however we think it would be helpful for anyone regardless of their faith. While there are references to some Bible verses and Christian themes such as prayer, the course allows you to interpret the workbook exercises in a way that makes sense to you as a couple.

Does this course cover parenting skills?

No, there are separate courses for parenting and a pre-marriage course too. For further details on other courses available through Relationships Central in Australia, visit their Australian website.
